Live Who?

To think Al Gore had something going with The Inconvenient Truth, he had to kill it all with this Live Earth bullcrap. Oh... Al had me going for awhile, the snappy awareness ads that flash between programs, feeding us with little tidbits on how to use that much less of mother earth's resources. And the concerts, with the who's who of the world music scene seemingly banding together for the 24 hour single event that might have become the single defining conservation movement of this decade....

Any good that may had came from all that was promptly squashed by the mammoth event itself. As millions poured into the eight giant venues, along with their carbon spewing transports and snack consumuption inducing heaps of trash, which includes the megastars and the stage help. To find out if u have been like me, fooled by this charade of corporate pandering, watch this video posted on the blog The Largest Minority.

Terrorism

My heart is with you, please stay safe

Link

Had the urge to post this, for some reason beyond my grasp.

While its true that countless other innocents(on ALL sides) suffer fates worst than this during this age of bloodshed, still every little bit of awareness counts.

I can only imagine the anguish going through the minds of their loved ones.

Manian mania

DJ Manian(2nd from right) with DJ Yanou and Natalie Horler
(1st and 2nd from left) comprises CASCADA

Star struck~! Those words defined my state at the Eurodance party down at OOSH, Having known that Manian (1/3 of German eurodance group Cascada) would be spinning along with other guest DJs, Naksi vs Brunner, from Hungary. My Euro-Buddy Aik and I dropped by the seemingly Uber-Ulu, Dempsey road venue via cab (on a rainy night no less), only to be greeted by the sight of 2 neat rows of luxury transportation (namely Porsches, Ferraris and the like) nicely parked at the lot in front of OOSH.

Our fears were confirmed after we entered the establishment and saw hordes of yuppies and rich expats' offsprings, dressed in sharp and expensive treads, mingling in the posh setting of the OOSH bar. Aik and I on the other hand, being impeccably Singaporean, simply wore t-shirts and jeans. Such self-embarassment continued when we proceeded to get a jug of house pour and I non-chalantly whipped out a 50, only to be told it was 67 BUCKS~! (WTF~!~!). Utterly bummed-out, we slithered back to our little standing table and ordered modest 10 bucks a glass drinks, hoping the music would be our salvation.

Naksi vs Brunner didn't disappoint, dishing out house and trancey hits smoove as a baby's bottom, yet as skilled as the Duo are, we couldn't help but feel that while the chill factor was present, there wasn't the High-energy rifts euro-lovers like us craved. Prayers were answered when Manian took the table at 12:30 and immediately people were seen shuffling to the impromtu dance floor and boogied to the non-stop Euro dance. This heart-thumpping session lasted only till 2, but we cherished every moment even as we felt the wave of nostalgia for the Singapore eurdance scene now long dead, get revived one night only.

It was then that i told Aik we should get a shot in with manian for boosting rights and he got out his...(using sarcastic caps here) UBER COOL 2.5 G VGA CAMERA PHONE of <2>

Probably the closest I'll get to Germany and actual Eurodance

Tarot

You are The Lovers

Motive, power, and action, arising from Inspiration and Impulse.

The Lovers represents intuition and inspiration. Very often a choice needs to be made.

Originally, this card was called just LOVE. And that's actually more apt than "Lovers." Love follows in this sequence of growth and maturity. And, coming after the Emperor, who is about control, it is a radical change in perspective. LOVE is a force that makes you choose and decide for reasons you often can't understand; it makes you surrender control to a higher power. And that is what this card is all about. Finding something or someone who is so much a part of yourself, so perfectly attuned to you and you to them, that you cannot, dare not resist. This card indicates that the you have or will come across a person, career, challenge or thing that you will fall in love with. You will know instinctively that you must have this, even if it means diverging from your chosen path. No matter the difficulties, without it you will never be complete.

Why people posts such quizzes I will never know, why do I post this then...?

Donations

One day in AMK Interchange...

Cute flag seller:"Sir? Sir? Do you have a moment?"

Me:"Huh?"

CFS:"Hi, I'm from the Blah blah blah, we are doing a drive to blah blah blah..."

Me:*Staring intently though not really listening*

CFS:"I'm not asking for a 50 dollars donation, something small like a 10 will do." *Smiles cutely*

Me:*unable to control arm movement, reaches for wallet and hands over the 10*

Back home, audio bombardment begins...

Mom:"TOLD YOU SO MANY TIMES~! DON'T BELIEVE THEM~! REMEMBER NKF??!!"

Me:"..."

ORD thoughts

"Its like lugging a boar carcass up the stairs"

This is the end. The end of the long 2 year journey of which a boy becomes a man (or whatever it is I am now). It came slowly, gradually till a point which I realize that I'm no longer CPL CHEN, but Mr. Chen.

Those 2 years may be just a blink in the dreary eyes of Life, yet encompassed in them are memories now etched into the very core of my being. Wet, muddy and miserable moments are always accompanied by triumphant feelings of a job well done, often with your trusted fellow soldiering friends at your side. Even spending time in camp bitching about all sorts of topics (like would the cookhouse one-up itself by serving even worst tasting food than now? Which sergeant is a back-stabbing a**?) can be a moral boosting activity. Living with 10 people, of differing race and ideals 5 days a week, in the same room for 2 years can be a life changing (for better or worst?) experience.

Thus, as I stare at this load of meaningful junk that I hauled 4 stories down and another 700m to the nearest cab then up again to my little old 2nd floor flat, I think to myself...

Expectations

Mundane people lead mundane lives, hence my apprehensionon updating this blog. This time however, shows that great boredom can be a powerful motivator.

Its november and open season for birthdays again. Ah, how we humans love to celebrate ourselves, the one day where common people like me and you bask in the attention of love ones and friends. Why else would people celebrate a date of which they were forcefully thrusted out of the comfort of the womb and into the harsh reality of life?

Then again, I haven't really lived the "harsh" life yet. Personally, even the thought of facing a calculating potential employer in a job interview drums up emotions of dread. Living a sheltered life affords me the opportunity to bitch and whine about 'most tinsy bit of hardship. Maybe someone should just ship me to lebanon and experience what a day of arty and airstrikes can teach one about hardship.

Call me pussy~ meow... -_-

Movies:

Deathnote didn't disappoint, having not read the manga certainly goes a long way when you want to experience every twist and turn the plot methodically drives you through. Production values wise, this little offering would fit better as a hit TV series than a blockbuster.

Casino Royale rocked my world, especially if you were, like me, one of those that thought " James Bond should just contract AIDS and die~! I want a Solid Snake movie~!" Daniel Craig is an odd choice but delivers an excellent portrayal of a Brash Bond with his his newly accquired double O status and with it, Killer skills and that same old Ego :) Masterfully delivered dialogue makes the literal war of words just as gripping as the war with bullets and bombs surrouding our protagonist. A must watch for those jaded by this franchise.

"oh yes~, flame me with your fiesty sarcasmic words M"
